By In News & Updates On September 6, 2016

Thank you for remembering to stop by and check in to our weekly updates. Don’t forget to locate the secret word below and write it in your child’s agenda for an extra class dojo point.

Be on the Lookout for…

  • There is an early release day this Friday, September 9. Students will dismiss early at 1:15. Please email and/or write transportation changes so I can ensure your child gets to their proper destination.
  • If you haven’t already, please follow us on twitter @MrsVaughan3 so you can check out the great things happening in our room in real time. Students earn points for followers they bring to our page!
  • Check out “3rd grade at a glance” for all the topics we will cover this year. SS/Sci will not follow this calendar, but literacy and math will be close!

This week in Literacy:

Students are beginning literacy assessments this week in the areas of fluency, comprehension and context clues. These will help give us an idea of what students know and give us a baseline on how far students will grow this year.

We are also learning about characters- their traits and motivation, and how their actions impact the story. Students will practice telling basic story elements and answering right there questions.

This week in Math:

We are doing a variety of addition and subtraction of methods.  Some of these may NOT be familiar to you as parents so it is VERY important to use the example coming home from what students did that day. Some very helpful parent links to what we are doing can be found here:

I am noticing some major gaps in what students SHOULD know, so please look over assignments with them to ensure they understand. If frustration levels are reached, write me a note or send me an email. I want to address it asap! word- regrouping
