Weekly Update 8.30.16

By In News & Updates On August 30, 2016

Welcome to Mrs. Vaughan’s 3rd grade class. I am so excited for a new year and hope you are ready to hit the ground running! Please check this site EVERY Tuesday afternoon when folders come home. It will have important dates, needs, and academic topics we are currently covering. There will also be a secret word embedded in the update. If you write the word at the bottom of your students’ agenda, they earn an extra dojo point each Wednesday morning!

What you need to know this week:

  • Tuesday folders will be coming home TODAY. Please fill out and return items ASAP.
  • If you haven’t already, please read through the folder given to you a Meet and Greet last Friday. Return papers as needed and be sure to sign up for Class Dojo using your student’s code so you can track their behavior each day. We would love for you to follow us on Twitter as well so you can see and share all the amazing things happening in our room! Word- dojo

This week in literacy: A good deal of our first weeks will be spent going over procedures and learning routines. Students will learn new expectations and how Daily 5 reading looks in 3rd grade. I will be gathering a good deal of baseline data as well. We will also be covering the structure of our writing block.

This week in math: We are starting with a review of multi-digit addition and subtraction. Knowledge of borrowing and regrouping is very important so please practice at home and check your child’s homework to ensure they aren’t confusing the steps. Students will learn a VARIETY of methods, so it’s possible you may not recognize the way they solve the problems.

VOCAB: place value, digit, regroup
