By In News & Updates On April 4, 2017

Be on the Lookout for…

  • Tuesday Folders will not come home today. 3rd quarter report cards will come home Friday.
  • Students have taken their 1’s, 2’s, 3’s, 4’s, 5’s, 6’s, 7’s, 8’s, 9’s, 10’s, 11’s and 12’s  Multiplication Sundae quizzes. Thursday will be makeups for ANY quiz students want to make up. These are timed on a visible stopwatch for student goals only, not countdown as a “it has to be done by this time” manner. Students should be able to answer the 16 questions in under 2 minutes to be considered “fluent”. Students will record their time on the back of their quiz, and their pieces earned on the sundae picture that is housed inside a plastic sheet in their agenda. You can expect a quiz usually Tues and Thurs with makeups on Fri for those who do not pass.
  • Scholastic Book Order flyers should be in by Thursday. Thank you to those who placed an order and helped our class earn free books!
  • In celebration of a well deserved break, this week is Spring Fever Week! Show your excitement by wearing the colorfully themed attire…
    Mellow Yellow Monday
    Turquoise Tuesday
    Picture Perfect Pink
    Groovy Green Thursday
    Owlsome Orange Friday
  • Spring Break is almost here! Students will be off the week of April 10-14. Please enjoy the time off and come back ready to finish the year in style! word-spring break, woohoo
  • Mrs. Vaughan will be at the WCPSS Convergence conference Mon and Tues April 17 & 18. This will be an #owlsome opportunity for me to share the amazing things my techies are doing, and pick up even more knowledge about how to engage and grow students digitally. Ms. Baddick will be here to steer the ship in my absence.

This week in Literacy:

Students have read the historical fiction text “Back of the Bus” and are working through “Brave Girl” this week as we look at how character actions define them and change the course of the story. Both stories connect to social studies topics we have researched this year, Civil Rights and Immigration!

Students are connecting geometry with fractions as we wrap up a lengthy, but exciting Fractions unit.  Lots of vocab is important in understanding this concept. Here is a parent guide for helping you and your student understand our main learning outcomes

Concepts to review: place value, addition with regrouping, subtraction with borrowing, rounding to the nearest 10 and 100, quadrilateral, parallelogram, trapezoid, rectangle, square, rhombus, arrays, repeated addition, area, perimeter, rectilinear area, commutative property (flip flop rule), number line, product, distributive (break apart method), associative property, graphs, pictographs, bar graphs

A year long “Scope and Sequence” which lays out our math curriculum pacing for the year
