Be on the Lookout for…

  • Tuesday Folders will come home today. Please check your child’s agenda for homework.
  • Interim Reports are coming home today. Please sign and return ASAP. Keep in mind that there are still lots of standards to cover and time left for grades to change. Your best window into your child’s progress continues to be work samples and what you see on homework. word-interims
  • There is an early release this Friday, March 2nd. Students will release at 1:15.
  • Mrs. Vaughan will be out of the classroom March 1st and 2nd of this week. I am thrilled to be attending the NCTIES conference in Raleigh and even showcasing some of our #owlsome students and all the amazing things they can do with technology. Our teacher intern Ms. Nelson will be steering the ship in my absence. If you need me, please send an email. She will be checking dojo for any notes or transportation needs there.
  • Next week our school will be celebrating Read Across America week including several opportunities to dress up and show school spirit. These are not mandatory, but students will earn a dojo if they choose to participate. Please see the attachment on Dojo in the Class Story for a schedule of these events.

This week in Literacy:

Students are completing a Water Molecule Adventure narrative writing piece where they flex their brain muscles on what they learned on solids, liquids, and gases. They are also beginning their country research projects which will connect to our awesome social studies unit! Look for info coming home next week about this exciting topic.

This week in Math:

Multiplication quizzes will continue this week. Students have the 11’s test Wednesday Feb 28th. Makeups for any missed facts will take place THIS Friday. PLEASE do what you can to help students learn these facts quickly. They are expected to answer 16 in a minute. Fluency is key!

Students are continuing a lengthy, but exciting Fractions unit. Lots of vocab is important in understanding this concept. Here is a parent guide for helping you and your student understand our main learning outcomes

Current vocab: numerator, denominator, unit fraction, partition, number line, visual model

Concepts to review: place value, addition with regrouping, subtraction with borrowing, rounding to the nearest 10 and 100, quadrilateral, parallelogram, trapezoid, rectangle, square, rhombus, arrays, repeated addition, area, perimeter, rectilinear area, commutative property (flip flop rule), number line, product, distributive (break apart method), associative property, graphs, pictographs, bar graphs

This quarter in Social Studies: We begin an Immigration Unit to reach SS objectives in the following areas.

3.H.1 – Understand how events, individuals and ideas have influenced the history of local and regional communities.

3.H.2 – Use historical thinking skills to understand the context of events, people and places.
