  • The Kiwanis Club of Holly Springs visited 3rd graders this morning and gifted each of them with their very own dictionary. How #owlsome is that!?

This week in Literacy:

Students are reading “The Frog Princess” which is a Tlinget legend from Alaska. Readers will be asked to gather information from illustrations and our focus will be identifying the theme of the story. Theme and main idea are different, and that’s sometimes hard for students to understand! We will also spend class time attacking unfamiliar words using context clues to gather meaning!

This week students will work on a new opinion writing piece-I will model good techniques for persuading others, then students will choose a topic meaningful to them to work on. Some of you parents may be the recipients of these letters!

This week in Math:

Timed multiplication quizzes begin THIS week!! Your child should have an icecream sundae sheet and data table in their agenda to keep track of their successes with these 1 minute timed quizzes. There are 16 questions on each quiz and students pass with a 15/16 or better. If they do NOT pass, there will be a makeup opportunity each Friday during arrival. All quizzes will come home the day they are taken and will be located inside the plastic X sundae page. Please do what you can to help prepare your child for these fun and important assessments! word-multiplication minute
