Weekly Update 11.14 and 11.21 2017
Be on the Lookout for…
- Students will have an early release at 1:15 on Tuesday, November 21. They will then be off for Thanksgiving Break until Monday, November 27th. Please let Mrs. Vaughan know if your child will be absent so I can plan accordingly!
- Tuesday folders will NOT come home this week. Look for a full folder next week 🙂
- Our class is 2/3 of the way finished with Wonder, but we still have a ways to go. I also know the theatres may be packed opening weekend and Thanksgiving weekend. For this reason, let’s plan to do our class trip to Wonder on Sunday, December 3rd in the afternoon. We won’t have exact times until a few days before but if you’d like to join me on this optional gathering please mark this date down. Everyone is welcome:)
This week in Literacy:
Students are continuing the chapter book, The Year of Miss Agnes. We will identify character traits and how these impact story events. We will also dive into point of view and main idea. Students have learned a lot about the Allakaket Alaskan region already and will continue to apply their knowledge in reading and social studies these next few weeks. Check out this awesome map which shows the actual locations mentioned in the story, and photos which display some of the topics covered in this book. Students also created their OWN Map of their Holly Springs favorites! Ask your child to see this owlsome work!
This week students will work on opinion writing- specifically in the hopes of saving a turkey’s life this Thanksgiving. They will practice Point of View skills as they plead with the President (as a turkey) to spare their life this year! Look for a hilarious final product through Chatterkid to share around the Thanksgiving table with the family:) word-turkey
