Weekly Update 10.18.22

By In News & Updates On October 18, 2022

Be on the Lookout for…

  • No folders today! Look for some work samples next week
  • Students will do COGAT testing Oct 25, 26, and 27th. This is a paper and pencil test that is an hour for 3 consecutive days. This is a screener and students do not need to study or prepare for this test.
  • The school’s Fall Festival is coming up soon! Mark your calendars for October 28th at 5:30. All classrooms will be putting together a raffle basket! Our class has the PICNIC theme. Mrs. Green has emailed information about our class basket. The signup genius can be found here.  Thank you for helping make this fun event happen!
  • Mrs. Vaughan will be out tomorrow (Wed, 10/19) and Thurs (morning only 10/20). I won’t be able to be as responsive on dojo, so Please be sure to contact the office with any transportation changes.

This week in Literacy:

Students will continue to work on their own Overcoming Challenges paragraph. They will also practice fluency through a short practiced passage and a longer play called “The Mummy’s Curse”.

We are also reading Bunnicula: A Rabbit Tale of Mystery as a class. Ask your child what Chester and Harold are up to!

This week in Math:

We are still working in Unit 3, which is stories with Addition and Subtraction. This unit always proves to be tricky for students. Please view the parent guide to help you assist your child and understand the various addition and subtraction lingo.

There are some blue cheat sheets in agendas . Please keep those in agendas so they can be used at school and at home during unit 3 which focuses on a variety of addition and subtraction of methods.  We do teach regrouping as a strategy this year (yay, finally the way you learned growing up), but it is alongside the methods they have been taught previously to ensure core understanding. Some of these may NOT be familiar to you as parents so it is VERY important to use the example coming home from what students did that day. Some very helpful parent links to what we are doing can be found here: Place Value Addition    Show All Totals/Partial Sums   Addition on a # Line   Place Value Subtraction  Subtraction on a Number Line
