Weekly Update 10.11.20

By In News & Updates On October 11, 2020

Welcome to week 9 of 3rd grade.

  • Yay! Plan B students will be returning to Oakview soon! You should have received notice of your child’s cohort and their adjusted schedule. I recommend printing it and keeping it handy as this is no smooth schedule. Also, for clarification cohort 1, 2, 3 aligns with group A, B, C.
  • Group A/Cohort 1- Emmett, Andrea, Emerson, Cody, Victor, Berkley, Chantel, Cara
  • Group B/Cohort 2- Claire, Christian, Mert, Kylie, Owen, Madeline
  • Group C/Cohort 3- Rocco, KayKay, Collins, Bennett, Tyler, Charlotte
  • If your child is not IN the classroom that week, they will be expected to attend 2 live Google Meets per day and complete asynchronous work as they have during remote learning.
  • Also, Mr. Gaudet emailed a link for the Student Information Card. This is a VERY important tool to have on file and will need to be completed before your child can return to school.
  • Wednesday October 14th will be ASYNCHRONOUS days for students. There will be NO LIVE instruction/Google Meets but students will be expected to complete an assigned math, reading, and social studies activity along with daily Dreambox and Read to Self. Lessons will have recorded directions and samples to students should be able to work independently.
  • Other schedule reminders- Fri, Oct 23rd is a teacher workday. Tues, Nov 3 in Election Day. Wed, Nov 11 is Veterans Day. There is NO SCHOOL live or asynchronous on those days.

YOUR CHILD’S WORK LOAD THIS WEEK:

  • Many assignments will be graded as I work towards creating numerical grades for the 1st quarter report card that will be sent home October 30th. Hopefully students are in the habit of using asynchronous time wisely to utilize timely practice of new skills and avoid a Friday pileup.
  • All work will be accessible through Google Classroom. When finished they must TURN IN for it to disappear from their to do list.
  • Students should be 5 minutes early for morning meeting (9:10), whole group reading (12:55), and Writing/Science (2:15). They should be ON TIME for any small group to they don’t interrupt an active meeting.
  • NOTE FOR FRIDAYS: Students will NOT have regular SMALL group meets on Fridays. These times will be reserved for longer assessments called “Show Me What You Know” time, tutoring or reteaching, technical assistance, or catch up time for students who still have asynchronous work to complete. If your child is being requested to attend a Google Meet during small group time I will message you Friday morning or you may message me if you think your child needs that extra support that week. ALL students should plan to attend meetings on Fridays at 9:10 and again at 1:00. They will NOT have scheduled writing and science meetings Friday. They will have asynchronous tasks Friday afternoons and may use the link to pop on to ask questions or get help.

ASYNCHRONOUS WORK: When your child is not meeting live with the teacher, they will be expected to complete independent tasks daily or weekly. This may vary slightly from teacher to teacher, but our class will have the following expectations:

  • MATH asynchronous work will be done DAILY but turned in on Friday. They may complete several tasks in the same day if they choose, but cannot turn in until after the Friday “Show Me What You Know” quiz or activity has been activated and completed. Here is an example of the document students will use to track their task completion throughout the week.
  • READING/WRITING asynchronous work will be a mix of daily and twice a week assignments. Students are expected to read DAILY for 20 minutes in addition to the required reading of our class reading focus text. They may read physical books or one of the many digital reading resources available to them. These minutes will be tracked in their Google Classroom post. Here is an example of what they will use to access and track their reading minutes.
  • SCIENCE/SOCIAL studies lessons will be a mix or live meets and asynchronous work. If students are NOT live they are expected to turn in assignments THAT DAY.
